What Can Cause Joint Pain in Pups?

Joint pain in pups is most common in older dogs, but dogs of all ages and breeds can at some point in their life experience joint pain.

There are two causes:

  • A degenerative joint issue comes from repeated use of the joint. The actual cause can range from osteoarthritis to injuries, but it is most commonly seen in dog who are overweight and their weight and their weight puts stress on their joints.
  • A developmental joint issue is present in your pup from day one. It is based on genetics and can result in hip or elbow dysplasia.

A number of dogs are predisposed to having joint issues, but large and giant dogs are most likely to suffer.
